As an English teacher I`m constantly hearing strange manipulations of the language. Most of them don`t make any sense, but on occasion they could, with a little creative interpretation.
Try to guess what the correct version of this sentence should be.
The Company fired huge employees.
The answer is- The Company fired a huge number of employees.

The answer is “The company fired many employees.” It’s a simple mixup of words that imply largeness.

You might be right there Rob, though I’d say ‘many’ doesn’t convey the same kind of scale as ‘a huge number of’- which is the impression the student (in this particular case) wanted to get across.
Hello Michael. I work for a trade magazine for the bowling industry, and our publisher/editor found your images beautiful and haunting. We are very interested in doing a story about you and the ruins of the bowling centers you have documented.
If you could please contact me, that would be wonderful. My phone number is (818) 789-2695. We are based out of Los Angeles, CA.
Hope to hear from you soon,

I’m surprised we don’t hear things like “That smells hilarious” from English learners more often…
