Belly of the Whale – Yurakucho Forum

Mike Grist Architecture, Japan 6 Comments

I’ve wanted to shoot the interior of the Yurakucho International Forum for some time, but only now got round to doing it- pushed ahead by a meeting with international jet-setter and club photographer Joshua Dearing. We did a photowalk around the structure, then through Ginza, finishing up in the big Starbucks where we talked plenty about extending life and Apple’s next product release.

HDR of 3 RAW images stopped 2 f’s apart, with Color Efex Pro applied.
Inside a giant zeppelin.

Like the skeleton hull of a giant ship is sailing overhead.

Tail-bone.

Temple.

Catnapping on the third floor.

The Forum is a spectacular building, seemingly built completely for style. As far as I can see it has no other function than to awe and impress the visitors who come to the conference center that it’s attached to.

  1. Very nice pics! The forum is a great place to shoot and I wish I could get there more. Actually, I’d like to just shoot more lol. Your top pic, the HDR one, is especially nice. Have you ever shot there at night? The building is brilliant when all lit up!
