Jon- Thanks a lot for the tip, I`ll look out for it.

Notmy- Another great tip, thanks very much, I`ll look into it. Theme Parks are some of the best ruins around. As for the J-economy going down, I think we`re already there aren`t we?

Excellent article! There is a small abandoned amusement park in Kaga, north of Fukui, behind the enormous gold Kannon statue visible everywhere from the highways. The statue rivals the Statue of Libery for height. It is the perfect place to shoot a rock music video. The gold Kannon is hardly visited (my brother and I were the only ones there that day). Next to the statue is a hall full of 1000 plastic gold Bodhisattva statues laid out like the real wooden ones in Kyoto in Sanjusangendo. Very tacky place, but great for photographs! I can see this hall and the statue becoming an abandoned property if the Japanese economy hits the skids.

There is a coal mining ghost town near Iwaki in Fukushima. I can't quite remember where it is, but there is a coal mining museum in the city where you could ask for directions.
