Fun Captain Rob’s last night in town
Fun Captain Rob (from my Ultimate Frisbee team ‘Iku’) left Japan a few weeks back. For his last night in town we went to an izakaya (Japanese pub), then did nomihodai (all you can drink) karaoke for 3 hours, then hit a Roppongi club for the rest of the night. I of course had my camera with me.

On the short video below we’ve got snippets of Rob’s innate humor, confidence and mad Japanese/Chinese singing skills, plus a little of his ‘ero’ ability.

Other highlights include Ellie dancing on the couch, Yoshio giving Rob tambourine props, and Yoshio and his friend Ken suggesting they’d ‘wanna make love to’ each other….
All this in less than 2 minutes of video? Wow…
It’s good that Capt. Rob got a good sendoff doing what he liked to do.
I said good-bye to him from the beach tourney gimmick a few weeks back.
Was there something in the last shot of Rob and Summer I didn’t catch? Why was it included?
Glad to see you using Vimeo, made the video much more enjoyable to watch (without having the awful YouTube framing).
yeah it was a proper sendoff for robaato. ken and i certainly seemed excited about the prospects of man love. would have been cool to get footage of the urban sunrise… that’s my strongest memory of the evening. anyway, nice footage and editing, who knew you could get such quality from such a small device?
on second view, ken was noticeably more excited than me. i’m flattered.
i’m also curious about the last shot with natsu…
Dunno Captain Rob, or pretty much anyone else in that video. If someone you know wants to play frisbee catch or some casual fun ultimate - LMK.
Jason and Yosh- The last shot with Natsu maybe I cut it a bit too sharply- but it’s Rob being a bit ‘ero’ and giving her a little squeeze, while she recoils away with a grin. Why include it- to show Rob’s cheeky side.
Curt- Yeah, that’s the turn-over thing with frisbee, though Yoshio has been around for a good while, and Rob was here at least 2 years I think. Casual ultimate- there’s always people throwing on the sidelines at regular frisbee pick-up on Sunday- at least in summer when there’s too many for the field.
Is there still pick up ultimate? I thought that died long ago.
Curt- It’s always pick up on Sundays from 2 or whenever- though it is a fact that the level has gone up a lot since the old days, and I think it would be quite tough for a total beginner to walk onto the field and be able to play now.
We were talking about that recently- I’m torn really, as I do want new people to be able to come in and be welcomed, but I also want to play at least a bit of a competitive game.
But- regardless of what I want- the people that come out now are generally already players, and bring their higher level with them, so, hmmm. No one decided to make it this way, it’s just what happened.
